Senate Leadership

The Ohio Senate is led by four key officers who guide the chamber's work, set the legislative agenda, and represent their respective caucuses. These leaders work to advance legislation that reflects the values and priorities of all Ohioans.

Senate President

Presides over all Senate sessions, sets the legislative calendar, appoints committee members and chairs, and serves as the chamber's chief spokesperson. The President shapes the overall direction of the General Assembly.

President Pro Tempore

Assumes the President's duties in their absence and assists in managing Senate operations. This officer is typically a senior member of the majority party.

Majority & Minority Leaders

The Majority Leader coordinates the majority caucus's legislative strategy and floor activities. The Minority Leader represents the minority party's interests and coordinates floor debate and amendments.

Ohio's 33 Senate Districts

Every Ohioan is represented by one of 33 state senators. Districts are drawn to represent roughly equal populations—about 350,000 residents each—and are redrawn every 10 years using the latest census data to reflect how Ohio's communities have shifted.
